Events Update 2009

Coastal Walk 2009

Another fantastic day at this year's coastal walk, with approximately 5,000 walkers taking part!

The day started off with sunshine and blue sky turning quickly to torrential rain at about 11am, this however did not put off our intrepid walkers who carried on regardless. Thankfully the rain was brief and the sun and blue sky returned quickly, perfect conditions for the 15 miles ahead.

It is such a unique event, bringing people from all over the Wirral together to raise money for Charity.

We were delighted that so many people chose to support us this year and it was nice to see so many walkers wearing Hospice T-shirts along the route. We had our Marquee ready and waiting at the end, to welcome them all back and have a much needed sit down and a cold drink!

The rotary club that put on this great event did as always do a great job, registration was quick and efficient there were plenty of Loo's along the way and a great band to welcome them at the finish who played that well known song by the Proclaimers “I would walk 500 miles” I am sure at point they felt like they had walked 500 miles!

Potter Family Charity Walk

John and Barbara Potter and their family raised an unbelievable amount of funds for the Hospice by organising a fundraising walk.

The total amount now stands at over £13,000 – an amazing achievement for one family in a short space of time.

The family recently received the devastating news that John has terminal cancer, with the prospect of only a few months left to live

Despite feeling broken hearted the Potters chose to do something positive by raising money for a worthy cause. John has chosen St John's Hospice as their charity since this is in the local community and will play a predominant part in his palliative care in forthcoming weeks/months.

The walk took place on Easter Saturday at Thurstaston Country Park on the Wirral. The support from family and friends was tremendous with over 120 people turning up on the day, which way surpassed our expectations.

Sacred Heart Church Irish Night

The Sacred Heart Church in Moreton celebrated St Patrick's day in style with their own Irish night. The evening was packed with Irish style fun with Irish dancing and a fantastic Irish singing duet.
