Vetting and Barring Scheme

The Criminal Records Bureau – an executive agency of the Home Office – is set up to help organisations make safer recruitment decisions. By providing wider access to criminal record information, the CRB will help employers in the public, private and voluntary sectors identify candidates who may be unsuitable for certain work, especially that involving contact with children or other vulnerable members of society.

The CRB will help protect the public through a new service called Disclosure.

St John's Hospice through its work with vulnerable adults is now registered with the CRB and Disclosures are requested for all new staff and volunteers.

Furthermore to ensure disclosures are “recent and appropriate” St John's Hospice operates an ongoing renewal programme whereby at periodic intervals employees/volunteers details are re-submitted to the CRB for an up to date Disclosure request.
